As Yo Momma’s Style products land in more kitchens like yours, folks will inevitably ask why I started the business. My answer: why not? What’s it going to hurt to give it a try?
I am a firm believer that if you build it, they will come. Believe in your dreams, and be a passionate person.
My husband and I are a lot alike in that respect. We don’t let the grass grow under our feet for too long. I think it’s a Western thing, be adventurous, take a chance, get up in the morning put on your big girl boots, and show the world where the pointy end is. He loves to build things, I love to cook. When I cook for people, they always want my recipes. Hey y’all, it’s all up in my head, it all depends on the ingredients. I could tell you how I make my green chili which is a bushel of roasted Pueblo green chilies, 20 pounds of peeled chopped roma tomatoes, 3 pounds of diced onions, cooked for 8 hours outside on my 90,000 BTU camp stove.
Ingredients Make A Difference
But in the end it all depends on the ingredients, if the chilies are too hot I may have to throw in some diced potatoes to soak up some heat. If the tomatoes are too watery, I may end up adding some tomato paste. Oh yeah and lots of garlic, preferably roasted with the green chilies.
It’s the same with my jams, jellies, and rubs, what is that end flavor you’re looking for? The flavor profile, what tastes good together? So for my Bacon and Fig Jam, the inspiration for it was actually a tapas plate. Mark and I used to go to this great tapas bar in downtown Loveland, Colorado on a Saturday afternoon. They had this one dish that was a bacon wrapped date, stuffed with some cheese, and served with a balsamic reduction sauce. It was the bomb, a really nice flavor combination.
Figs And A Happy Dance
So one day as I was perusing the selection at the farmer’s market here in Raleigh, my little eyes spied some fresh figs. I was doing my happy dance, and my now friend Amber that works there sold them all to me, and let me knew when more was available.
I took her a jar after I had made my first batch of fig and bacon jam, she popped that bad boy open right there, stuck her finger right in the jar, and her face went all dreamy LMAO! Now that makes me happy! In the end, if I make you happy with my products this is why I started. Enjoy and be sure to let me know how you transformed ordinary to extraordinary 🙂
